Hong Kong Movies and stars

Hong Kong movies are one of the major entertainments in the country as well as in other neighbouring countries. In fact, movies from Hong Kong are widely exported to countries like Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia while some have also made successful inroads into the western markets including Europe and to Hollywood.

Hong Kong movies have various categories which have its own markets. In most cases, there are the blockbusters which are usually watched and anticipated by viewers. It also has its own adult category known as Category III which is also known as soft porn in other markets.
The likes of Stephen Chow and Jacky Chan has made movies which are not only popular in Hong Kong but extremely successful in other countries. Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu and Shaolin Soccer made it to Hollywood where it did receive quite an overwhelming response.

Jacky Chan’s fast moving action movies too saw him getting noticed and making it to the American market where he was subsequently offered movie roles in Hollywood productions. Other stars who made it to Hollywood include Chow Yuen Fatt, Jet Li as well as producer and director John Woo who directed Mission Impossible 2 starring Tom Cruise.
